ICC Champions Trophy 2025 faces a major dispute as BCCI gains support for the Hybrid Model, while PCB risks losing hosting rights.
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy has suddenly turned the course of events with intensive discussions going on between the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This disagreement is because India does not want to come to Pakistan for the tournament, hence the proposed Hybrid Model as a solution to the stalemate.
BCCI, Backed for Hybrid Model
In a major break, the BCCI has gained endorsement from all other participating cricket boards on the Hybrid Model, claims reports. According to reports, held some matches in Pakistan while India would play at neutral venues. This compromise has been reached after India's stiff against any traveling to Pakistan for security reasons.
The ICC organized a virtual meeting with the members aimed at this particular matter. The meeting was too short to last 15 minutes but made news in that it not only had unanimous backing from the other teams toward BCCI's position.
PCB's Stubbornness and Fallout
There is general support for the Hybrid Model; however, the PCB remains adamant about the entire Champions Trophy being hosted in Pakistan. It is a matter of national pride for the PCB, not making it easy to share hosting rights.
But, as reported, the ICC had issued an ultimatum to PCB:
Accept Hybrid Model: Let some matches take place outside Pakistan.
Move the Tournament: If it continues to resist the hybrid option, it will relinquish its hosting rights.
As it stands, a third alternative also looms where the Champions Trophy is held outside Pakistan without the PCB's participation.

The Champions Trophy is a marquee event in the cricketing calendar, and the ongoing uncertainty has left fans and stakeholders on edge. The ICC’s strong stance signals a potential shift in hosting dynamics, and it’s becoming increasingly likely that the tournament might be moved out of Pakistan altogether.
An ICC official commented anonymously, saying, “At this stage, don’t be surprised if the tournament is played out of Pakistan, and even without Pakistan. If the PCB doesn’t accept the hybrid model, this outcome is very likely.”
