The new season of Indian Super League in 2024-25 begins finally on Friday, September 13, 2024. The defending League winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant will face ISL 2023-24 Cup winners Mumbai City FC at the iconic Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, much to the joy of any football lover across the country. We are watching opening battle as a rematch of last year’s finals and set for an intense rivalry and supercharged football promised in this new season.
Opening Weekend:
The first weekend is an exciting feast of football featuring several thrilling fixtures lined up. On Saturday, September 14, fans will witness the first double-header of the season. Chennaiyin FC will take on Odisha FC at 5:00 PM IST followed by a thrilling encounter between Bengaluru FC and East Bengal FC at 7:30 PM IST. The action continues over the weekend on Sunday, September 15 when Kerala Blasters FC hosts Punjab FC at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. The opening month for Hyderabad FC is conditional on clearing AIFF Club Licensing which means they will play their first game away against Bengaluru FC on September 19.
New Entrants Mohammedan Sporting Club:
This season marks a historical occasion for Indian Football with the Indian Super League growing to 13 sides thanks to Mohammedan Sporting Club being added to the roster. The Kolkata based club earned their place in the league after having performed excellently in I-League where they top the table. Mohammedan Sporting will start its ISL journey against NorthEast United FC at Kishore Bharati Krirangan on Monday, September 16.
Inclusion of mohammedan sporting has brought added spice and color into this game particularly among supporters from Kolkata. All three historic clubs based in this region, namely; Mohun Bagan supergiant, East Bengal FC and Mohammedan sporting are now part of ISL making it more interesting because it means we are going to have a series of boiled blood Kolkata derbies that every one will be talking about not forgetting first one scheduled for October 5 when Mohun Bagan Super Giant play with Mohammedan Sporting. Another match expected much anticipation is between East Bengal FC vs Mohun bagan super giant on October nineteen.
This year seems set for another fierce battle amongst clubs participating in Indian Super League. As it stands now, we have thirteen teams struggling hard for that precious ISL trophy after inclusion of Mohammedan Sporting Club.
